REALTOR Day at the Capitol 2020, ADOT project updates, Firewise Training and more

The Arizona Association of REALTORS has opened registration for REALTOR Day at the Capitol 2020. REALTORS from across the state will come together on January 14th, 2020 at the State Capitol to listen to updates on real estate in Arizona and the upcoming legislative session as well as meet and eat lunch with their state legislators. You will need to know your Legislative District when you register. If you don’t know your legislative district, read the November 24, 2019 blog post to access your district information.

There are several highway and freeway construction projects going on in our state and several more planned for the near future. Here are a few project updates:

State Route 24 – The full buildout of this freeway is not anticipated until 2024, but ADOT is building an interim roadway extending from Ellsworth Rd in Maricopa County to Ironwood Rd in Pinal. You can read more about the timeline, see a map of the project and see artist renderings at AZDOT.gov.

North/South Corridor – The proposed North/South Corridor will extend from US 60 near Apache Junction to I-10 between Eloy and Marana. You can read the Tier One Study, see maps, documents and timelines at AZDOT.gov.

I-11 – The Draft Tier One study for this freeway extending from Nogales to the Arizona/Nevada border at Hoover Dam is scheduled for completion in 2020. Eventually I-11 will extend north to the Canadian border as a major North/South transportation corridor between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. I-10 widening from 35th Ave. to Dysart Rd – ADOT is widening I-10 between 35th Ave and Dysart Road as well as making improvements to the pedestrian crossings at these interchanges. You can read more about this project at AZDOT.gov.

I-17 North Phoenix – ADOT is removing the traffic circles at Happy Valley Rd and Pinnacle Peak road and constructing Diverging Diamond interchanges. This project includes expanding I-17. You can see artist renderings of the Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley Rd interchanges at AZDOT.gov.

Loop 202/South Mountain Freeway – The Loop 202 from I-10 at 59th ave to I-10 at Pecos Rd will be opening soon. ADOT has provide a notice regarding ongoing construction after the freeway opens. You can read more about Loop 202 at AZDOT.gov.

Douglas Port of Entry – ADOT is working with the Mayor of Douglas to plan the necessary roadways for the commercial port of entry. You can read an overview of the two-port solution and see a rendering of the proposed commercial port at Douglasaz.gov.

Hwy 30/South Loop 303 – Highway 30 will stretch across the west valley south of I-10 between MC-85 and the south loop 202. The Loop 303 south of I-10 will connect with Hwy 30 as well. You can read the design plan, see maps and timelines at AZDOT.gov.

As of October 1, 2020, the U.S. Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) will require all air travelers age 18 and up to have an acceptable form of ID in order to board a plane. Current Arizona drivers’ licenses do not comply with the REAL ID Act, but you can get an Arizona driver license or travel ID through ADOT that does comply.To see a complete list of travel compliant IDs, go to TSA.gov.

GAD Events in 2020:
Firewise training, hosted by the Pinal Chapter, will be on January 31st and Feb 2nd in Florence. We will have one day of classroom training and a half day of field assessment training. At the end of the training you will become a Firewise USA Assessor, qualified to work with homeowners, HOAs and local fire departments to complete home assessments. Go to www.weservgad.org to register to attend this training. The training is free, but we ask you to register so that we have materials and food for all.

March 2020 – We will be conducting candidate campaign training. WeSERV members, candidates running for office and those thinking about running for office in 2020 or 2021 are invited to attend. More details will be coming soon, so watch the newsletter. We will have three trainings this year; one at the West Valley Chapter in Peoria, one at the Douglas Chapter and we will be teaming up with Flagstaff to bring training to the Flagstaff association.
