On Tuesday, January 14th several hundred REALTORS® from across Arizona came together at the Arizona State Capitol for REALTOR® Day at the Capitol. Senate President Karen Fann gave us an update on what we will see in this new legislative session. Education, infrastructure, the budget and social services were all topics of her update.
Tom Farley of Willetta Partners provided an update as well. Willetta Partners is the contract lobbyist firm representing Arizona REALTORS® at the Capitol. Tom told us about two bills Arizona REALTORS® hope pass this legislative session, SB 1021, and another bill as yet without a number at the time of this interview. That bill now has a number it is SB 1129 and the identical house version is HB 2351.
I was able to meet and interview Matthew Contorelli, ARs new Government Affairs Director. Matthew comes to AR from the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) and brings experience in garnering jobs and companies from out of state. We talked about his experience and how he will be interacting with Tom Farley on AR’s legislative agenda at the Capitol.
Senate Majority Leader Rick Gray visited had lunch with members from his Legislative District 21. I was able to catch up with him before he stepped into the afternoon session. I asked him to tell us what he sees as issues for this session.
The next day at the Governor’s State of the State address in the West Valley, I was able to speak with Representative Lorenzo Sierra from Legislative District 19. I asked Representative Sierra for his thoughts on the new session.
