The City of Surprise Property Maintenance Ordinance (PMO) – WeSERV Comments and Suggestions

The City of Surprise has had two public meetings and has had their proposed draft Property Maintenance Ordinance (PMO) on their website since late March. The City has been requesting feedback from the public along with suggestions.

WeSERV attended both public meetings, one on March 30th and the other on April 13th. At the April 30th meeting we were able to engage in conversation with Tiffany Copp and her staff on items of concern to REALTORS®, their clients, residential/commercial and agricultural property owners, tenants, and business. We provided suggestions as well to help assure property owners and tenants that their private contract rights and property rights will be honored.

You can read the proposed draft Surprise PMO, see the slide show, see the presentation by Tiffany and read the WeSERV letter to the City. Once staff has a draft ordinance completed, they will go through the necessary steps of presenting it to the the City Council for review, changes and eventual approval or denial. Currently City Staff anticipate presenting the updated draft PMO to the City Council on June 15, 2021 at the regular City Council meeting with an effective date of July 15, 2021.

I encourage you to read the proposed ordinance and the WeSERV letter. Begin noting items you would like to bring forward so that you are prepared to present your view in person or via letter to the City of Surprise at future City Council meetings.
